Swan and McKernan Sign for Westmeadows

Saturday 02 December 2017

Westmeadows Football Club is proud to announce the signing of one of its own in Collingwood's Dane Swan.

Dane played 258 games for Collingwood Football Club and was drafted with pick 58 in the 2001 AFL draft.  He made his senior debut two years later.

Swan became one of the greatest midfielders in the modern era. Since his breakout season in 2007, he became a premiership player, a Brownlow Medallist, a three-time Copeland Trophy recipient, and a five time All-Australian.  In 2010 he won the Leigh Matthews Trophy as the league's most valuable player.  Known as a prolific ball winner, Swan averaged almost 27 disposals per game over his career.

Whilst he had the most decorated career with the Pies, the journey started with Westmeadows and he is now wanting to give something back to the club that give him a start all those years ago.

Senior Coach Grant Smith is more that happy with the new signing.  "To have one of Westmeadow's own come back and give something with his vast experience of not just playing AFL but playing at an elite level is something that we are looking forward to tapping into.  It's an exciting time for the club and we are looking forward to training next week on the 4th of December ... this also keeps us inline with developing the club's youth program which Dane can assist with."

Also from the man himself - Dane Swan "I cant wait to give somthing back to the club that gave me my start in AFL and to do that with my cousin Aaron Ramsay will make the experience even better."

We all know that Dane made Anzac Day his won at the MCG but now in another special announcement Dane will take part in the Round 3 Blockbuster game on Anzac Day vs Oak Park at Westmeadows on April 25th.

Another addition to the Westmeadows team will be the other of Westmeadows most famous players in North Melbourne dual premiership player Corey McKernan.

Corey will assist the club in creating their high-performance culture and also assist with the clubs sponsorship and marketing programs.

He is a part of the Element Entertainment Group who will assist in making sure the Westmeadows program is the best in local football.
