2021 EDFL Competition Cancelled - President's Statement

Thursday 02 September 2021

Hi Everyone,

Firstly I hope everyone is safe and well. These are extremely challenging times for everyone and I truly hope you are well and safe at the moment. As always the WFC is there for its members, playing and social as well as any member of the local community who needs help and support to get through the next few months.

Unfortunately we were informed today that the 2021 season has been cancelled on the back of the recent extension to the existing lockdown and COVID-19 restrictions until at least the 23rd of September. As a club we have been working closely with the local council, AFL Victoria the EDFL, leaders of our Senior Men's, Senior Women's, Junior programs and Auskick coordinators. Today's announcement is a very sad day for everyone.

I would like to thank everyone who supported the club this year. The last 2 years have been challenging for our local community members however at all times we as a committee have felt the warmth and support of everyone and it is truly appreciated by us all.

Now that the season has officially concluded we will look too close out 2021 in as positive manner as possible and we will inform you of any key dates and activities as it will be possible to plan for. We will announce the date of the AGM shortly and begin preparations for 2022 which we hope is a far better year for us all.

In closing, I would like to thank the 2021 committee members for all their help and support, our coaches at all levels for their dedication and passion for their teams and the club and our volunteers who work tirelessly to help all of us enjoy community sport. It is appreciated more than any of you can imagine in normal times. That appreciation is magnified in times like the ones we face at the moment. Thank You.

Sincerely,

Grant Smith

On behalf of the WFC committee and support staff.
