Big shoes to fill as legend steps down

Friday 01 April 2022

Jim Doran is a member of the Westmeadows community who got together with other members to form the Westmeadows Football Club in 1970, starting off with only one Under 11 team. Jim, along with others, worked tirelessly over the last 52 years to see the club become one of the larger clubs in the Essendon District Football League.

Mr Doran, a WFC life member, has occupied many different positions within the club, including treasurer, committeeman, league delegate, first aid and umpire's escort. He also took it upon himself to head to young players homes to ensure they were registered to play for our great club.

The last few decades have seen Jim take on the roll as our senior men's time keeper, a very important role. Coming up to his 90th birthday, he has decided not to go on.

We would like to thank Jim for his loyalty and amazing work ethic but also must find someone to take his place and who will keep up his tradition of excellent work being there week in week out. - Shannon O'Brien.

The Westmeadows Football Club is currently seeking a time keeper to join our Senior Men's program for season 2022. To register your interest please email club secretary Liana Keenan at secretary@westmeadowsfc.com.au.
