GEMMA WRIGHT EXTENDS FOR 2027
Westmeadows Football Club is thrilled to announce that Gemma Wright will continue as Senior Women's Captain and Head Coach for the 2027 season, following an unforgettable year for our women's program.
After leading our Senior Women through an undefeated 2026 season and securing the EDFL Division One Premiership, she will once again lead the group as we prepare to take the next step into Premier Division football.
Her remarkable individual achievements included a sixth Gail Knight Medal as our Senior Women's Best & Fairest, a fourth EDFL League Best & Fairest award and Best on Ground honours in the Grand Final, further cementing her place as the most decorated player in our club's 56 year history.
Beyond her individual achievements, Gemma's leadership, experience and commitment to developing players have played an enormous role in shaping the strong culture within our women's program.
Her ability to bring the best out of those around her, build strong relationships and create an environment where players feel valued will be invaluable as the group prepares for the challenges ahead.
Club Vice President Shannon O'Brien praised Gemma's achievements and the impact she continues to have on the club.
"It's with great pleasure that we can announce that Gemma Wright will again be our Captain and Coach of our women's program for 2027. This year, Gemma led our team to an unbelievable season, being undefeated champions and premiers. She also claimed both our Club Best & Fairest and the EDFL League Best & Fairest awards. As well as Best on the Ground in the Grand Final. Gemma is the most decorated player in the club's 56 years by winning her 6th Club and 4th EDFL Best and Fairest awards. Next year, the team will play in the Premier Division, so we will need more players to come and see what it is like to be a teammate and be coached by the best female player and coach in the EDFL. Thank you, Gemma, for what you have done for the Westmeadows Football Club."
With our Senior Women preparing to compete in Premier Division in 2027, there is plenty to look forward to as we continue building on the success of this year's premiership.
We are excited to have her leading our women's program once again and look forward to welcoming both returning and new players as we begin the next chapter.
All the best, Gemma. We can't wait to see what you and the ladies can achieve in the new year!
