SENIOR WOMEN'S PROGRAM
ABOUT OUR WOMEN'S PROGRAM
Our Senior Women’s program at the Westmeadows Football Club competes in Division One of the Essendon District Football League (EDFL) and represents a strong and growing part of the club’s football structure. Built on connection, commitment and a high-performance mindset, the program provides an environment where players are challenged, supported and encouraged to develop their game.
Under the leadership of Head Coach Gemma Wright, the program places a strong focus on skill development, game understanding and collective effort. A finals appearance in 2025 reflected the progress of the group and the foundations being laid for continued success.
The 2025 season also saw significant individual recognition at league level. Head Player/Coach Gemma Wright was awarded the Essendon District Football League Division One Best and Fairest, a testament to her leadership, consistency and influence across the competition. In addition, Ruby Smith, Emma Baker and Gemma were selected in the Essendon District Football League Division One Team of the Year, highlighting the strength and quality within the program.
With clear development pathways, dedicated coaching support and strong engagement across the club, the Westmeadows Senior Women’s program continues to evolve and strengthen its presence, playing an important role in the club’s future on and off the field.
WOMEN'S CHARTER
PROUDLY A WOMEN AND GIRL'S CHARTED CLUB
The Women & Girls Community Football Charter reflects a shared commitment across Community Football Leagues, Clubs and Umpire Groups to create environments where women and girls feel welcome, safe and supported to participate in the game.
The Charter sets the expectation that community football will actively champion women and girls, guided by four key principles: opportunity, visibility, access and investment. Together, these principles help drive the continued growth of women’s football and ensure the game is inclusive and accessible for everyone.

THE AFL IS COMMITTED TO ENSURING COMMUNITY FOOTBALL ENVIRONMENTS ARE WELCOMING, SAFE AND INCLUSIVE FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS

We are incredibly proud to recognise Gemma Wright as the Airport Toyota Division One Best and Fairest. Gemma led from the front throughout the season, setting the standard with her consistency, competitiveness and ability to influence the game in key moments. As playing coach, her leadership and on field performance were instrumental in guiding Westmeadows back to finals football.
To see one of our own acknowledged at league level is a significant achievement and a reflection of the work she puts in week after week. A thoroughly deserved honour for Gemma and a proud moment for Westmeadows.
